Cleaning South Tampa Tile Roof

Be the first to comment!

Here is a medium size barrel tile roof our guys cleaned today in South Tampa.
This roof was done on a Saturday, so we allowed our guys to head on over to the Ballast Point Pier and do a little fishing, before the expected thundershowers hit Tampa today.

Our customers were tickled pink at the results of their tile roof cleaning.
They just bought this home, and moved here to South Tampa from New Orleans.
He is an architect, and his wife is a nurse who got a job at Tampa General.
He works downtown, so both of them are pretty close to their jobs, in their new home.

If you have any kind of roof that needs to be washed, give us a call at 813 655 8777 for a free estimate, with no obligation.

Prepare Your Roof for Hurricane Season

Be the first to comment!

1: Fix Missing or Loose Shingles
Missing or loose asphalt shingles might seem like a small thing, but they can lead to big problems if they are not taken care of before a Hurricane. Nail or caulk loose shingles and replace missing ones, or contact a roofing contractor in Tampa to come and take care of it for you. This will help prevent water from leaking into the home, or other damage from wind, rain, or hail. Also check for rusted flashing, loose eave and gable end vents, soffits, or turbines and get these things fixed before the storm. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, when it comes to preparing for a storm.

2: Consider Roof Tie-Downs
These truss tie-downs, often called “hurricane straps” help to brace the roof in very high winds and severe storms. They can help ensure that you don’t lose a whole portion of the roof to a large or sustained wind gust. Not every roof will need tie-downs, but it’s a good idea to talk to Tampa area roofing contractors to find out if it is advisable for yours. It also goes w/o saying that all mobile homes need tie downs in operating condition, so be sure to check them, before Hurricane Season begins.

3: Secure Yard Items
Outdoor furniture, smokers and grills,  and other decorations in your yard can quickly become flying projectiles that could damage your Tampa tile and shingle roofing. If you have these things, either tie them down or move them indoors to the garage, or shed so they don’t get loose and damage roof shingles and tiles.

4: Trim Back Trees
Trees in the yard can also become dangerous in a hurricane or tropical storm. If you have trees that hang over your home, trim them back a safe distance so they won’t break and fall onto the house during the hurricane or tropical storm.

Failing to prepare your roof for the coming storms  and hurricanes we get here in Tampa can cause a significant amount of damage. Get prepared so you don’t have to worry this storm season, but if the worst happens, call us at 813 655 8777 so we can suggest a qualified Tampa Roofing Contractor.

What Is The Best Roof For Tampa Florida ?

Be the first to comment!

If you own a home here in the Tampa Florida area, you know how hard the humidity, wind, heat and sun are on the different types of roofing materials. So, let's take a quick look at some of the most popular types of roofing materials used here..

In Florida,  fiberglass-based asphalt shingles are by far the most common roofing material used for residential roofing applications. They are easy to install, relatively affordable, last 20 to 30 years here,  and are recyclable in some areas. Asphalt shingles come in a large number of styles and colors. Often, zinc and copper granules are embedded in the granules of the shingles, to combat algae and mildew growth. These are commonly called algae resistant shingles, but they still get dirty  eventually, and require cleaning.

You'll most commonly see tile roofs in the southern United States. Homes that are 50 or 60 years old may still have their original tile roof, thanks to superior durability.
Most tiles used for roofing are made from clay, concrete or sand, but improvements in the manufacturing process have led to lighter weight, composite tiles that offer the same kind of longevity. Manufacturers typically rate their tiles for 50 years of life with proper maintenance, but in many cases that's a conservative estimate. In part, this is because of tile's natural resistance to sun damage along with superior protection against insect damage and rot. Water does not decay tile, and tile offers no food source for insects.

Properly installed, a metal roof should last as long as the house, sealing out water, surviving high winds, and easily shedding snow. Metal is resistant to fire, mildew, insects, and rot. Warranties vary widely, but most companies back their products for 20 to 50 years. Paint finishes typically have a 30-year limited warranty.

Cleaning A Barrel Tile Roof In Tampa Palms

Be the first to comment!

Here is a tile roof we did recently, in Tampa Palms.  We do a lot of work in the 33647 zip code.
These are what are called barrel tiles, and are much harder to clean then either an asphalt shingle, or a flat tile roof.
This customer found us on a Tampa Bay Football Blog. We are regular posters on that football blog, and Bucs Season Ticket holders.
Here is a picture of the barrel tile roof, before we cleaned it
Below is the side of the barrel tile roof of this Tampa Palms home. As you can see, there was plenty of landscaping we had to protect

The pictures above are the same barrel tile roof after we got dome cleaning it. Tampa Palms is pretty strict, and our customer got a clean your roof of else letter from the Tampa Palms HOA. He was pretty freaked out about getting the letter, because he was from out of state, where roof cleaning was nearly unheard of. In fact, he was from the Phoenix area, where the humidity is very low, compared to here in Tampa. We told him to contact his homeowners association, and tell them he had contracted us to wash his roof.
The HOA was very nice to him, and said they were familiar with our work, since we clean so many roofs in Tampa Palms.

So, if you have a Barrel Tile roof that needs a bath, give us a call at 813 655 8777 for a free estimate.
Most of the time, we can see all we need about your property to give an immediate estimate, from Google Earth!

Repeat Roof Cleaning in Tampa Florida

Be the first to comment!

This is the second time we have cleaned this roof in Tampa.  This customer received a letter from his HOA recently, and remembered us. He used us 5 years ago, and remembered us, after all these years!
This will probably be the last time we clean this roof. Next time it gets dirty, it will be time for a brand new roof. Though the roof looks almost brand new from a distance, there is quite a lot of the granule loss, that indicates an aging roof. Call us at 813 655 8777 for a free, no obligation roof cleaning estimate.

Tile Roof Maintenance: How to Know When it’s Time to Clean

Be the first to comment!

Many homeowners here in the Tampa area are good about cleaning gutters, or washing off dirty spots on the house, but what about the roof? Most tile roofs here in Central Florida need to be cleaned every few years and rarely are! If you live in a climate with a high volume of rain, humidity, and wind, it can be hard to maintain a clean roof. Being in a city like Tampa with a high level of pollution or simply living near a highway can also affect how dirty your roof gets. By maintaining a roof cleaning schedule, you can save years that bacteria and algae would have otherwise taken from your tile roof.

The type of roof you have also affects how often your roof may need to be cleaned. A product that is unlike the rest in terms of cleaning, are composite roof tiles. Specifically, Brava’s Roof Tiles [http://www.bravarooftile.com] are highly weatherproof and made from recycled plastic. This means they absorb almost no water and the changes of algae, mold, or water damage with these roof tiles are next to nothing.

On the other hand, Clay Tiles are a difficult roof material to keep clean. They cannot easily be power washed due to their fragile nature. A powerful stream of water will shatter the tiles almost immediately. However, if you like the look of Clay Tiles, Brava offers composite Spanish barrel tiles with the same look, but far more durable. The composite products also rarely need to be cleaned. Wood shake roofing can be difficult to keep clean as well. It is not as simple as washing the tiles and can take certain treatments to keep the wooden roof from rotting.  Asphalt shingles are easier than the other materials to keep clean, but after years their appearance can still be difficult to maintain.

3 Signs That You Need a Tile Roof Cleaning

Here are a few tips on what to look out for on your roof so you now it is definitely time to get it cleaned! Remember though, even if these signs aren’t visible to you, if your roof has not been cleaned in several years it is probably time.

  1. Algae: This is most commonly seen in the form of black streaks on your roof. This is triggered by rain and your roof staying damp. At this point, there is still time for the tile roof to be cleaned and the shingles to stay intact.

  1. Moss: This is likely if your roof sits in a shaded area. This maintains dampness in your roof tiles and can cause more serious damage if left untreated.

  1. Lichen: This is a fungus that protects algae. This is a sure sign your tile roof needs to be cleaned, and possible even replaced. Lichen has roots that dig into roofing and break down asphalt. If shingles are left untreated, your shingles will likely start to erode.
